Elemi essential oil is a fresh, lemony and resinous oil, steam-distilled from the aromatic gum resin of Canarium luzonicum, a tropical tree native to the Philippines. With its unique balance between citrus brightness and soft balsamic depth, Elemi is often described as a bridge between citrus and incense oils.

Historically known as “Manila elemi,” this resin has been used for centuries in incense, healing balms, and even in European pharmacopeia since the 16th century. It was traditionally valued for skin repair and was even used in varnishes and lacquers due to its protective qualities.

Quality

Elemi trees (Canarium luzonicum) grow naturally in the tropical forests of the Philippines, where they thrive in their native environment.

The resin is carefully harvested by local producers using traditional tapping methods. Small incisions are made in the bark, allowing the tree to naturally release its aromatic resin, which is then collected without cutting down or damaging the tree.

Wild-grown trees often produce a richer and more complex resin. Their slower growth supports a higher concentration of aromatic compounds, contributing to the overall quality of the essential oil.

Sustainable tapping practices allow the tree to continue producing resin for many years, making this a respectful and long-term approach that preserves both the tree and its ecosystem.
