Larch Organic Essential Oil (Larix decidua) is a fresh, woody and resinous essential oil distilled from the needles of organically grown larch trees in France.

Larch is a remarkable mountain conifer and the only European conifer to shed its needles in autumn. Its essential oil has a beautifully rounded and balanced aroma and is considered one of the milder conifer fragrances. Fresh and resinous without being overpowering, its scent evokes the clean atmosphere of a mountain forest.

Its forest-like aromatic character makes Larch particularly suitable for diffusion when you want to create a fresh, reassuring and enveloping atmosphere. It is a lovely choice for moments of relaxation, while its clear aromatic profile also suits times when you want to encourage mental clarity and focus.

Larch Essential Oil is naturally rich in monoterpenes. In skincare and haircare preparations, it is particularly suited to oily skin and oily hair, where its purifying character can complement a balancing routine.

It can be enjoyed in diffusion, diluted in a carrier oil for external use, or incorporated into suitable homemade aromatic and cosmetic preparations.

Blends well with

Scots Pine
Enhances Larch's fresh, resinous forest character and creates a crisp, invigorating conifer blend. Particularly suitable for fresh-air and vitality-focused diffuser blends.

Black Spruce
Adds a deeper, richer conifer note to Larch. The combination creates a grounding yet revitalising forest aroma, particularly suited to periods of physical tiredness.

Atlas Cedarwood
Adds warmth, depth and a dry woody base to Larch's fresher resinous notes. A good combination when you want a more grounding and comforting aromatic blend.

Juniper Berry
Its fresh, woody and slightly crisp aroma complements Larch beautifully and gives the blend a cleaner, more expansive character. Particularly good in refreshing body and diffuser blends.

Rosemary
Adds a strong herbal freshness that complements Larch's invigorating forest profile. A particularly useful pairing for focus, concentration, vitality and after-activity aromatic rituals.

Lavender
Softens Larch's resinous conifer character with gentle floral and herbaceous notes. Ideal when you want to retain the forest aroma while creating a calmer, more relaxing blend.

Frankincense
Adds warm, resinous depth and complexity. Both oils have resinous characteristics, but Frankincense brings a softer, meditative quality that balances Larch's fresher forest notes.

Cypress
A very natural aromatic pairing. Cypress adds fresh, dry, woody and slightly balsamic notes that blend seamlessly with Larch, creating an elegant Mediterranean-meets-mountain-forest aroma.

Eucalyptus radiata
Adds a clean, fresh and airy aromatic quality that lifts Larch's woody-resinous profile. Particularly suitable when creating a very fresh diffuser blend.

Peppermint
Adds a cool, bright top note that contrasts with Larch's warmer woody and resinous character. Best used in smaller amounts when you want a particularly fresh, stimulating blend.

A little history

European larch, Larix decidua, is one of Europe's most distinctive mountain trees. Unlike most European conifers, it is deciduous. Its soft green needles turn a striking golden yellow in autumn before falling, leaving the branches bare throughout winter.

When spring returns, the tree produces a completely new covering of fresh green needles. This unusual annual transformation has contributed to the larch's long association with renewal, resilience and new beginnings.

Native to the mountainous regions of central Europe, larch is particularly associated with the Alps and other high-altitude landscapes. It can grow to around 30 to 40 metres tall and is remarkably well adapted to cold mountain environments.

Larch wood has also played an important practical role in Alpine communities. Valued for its strength and durability, it has historically been used for buildings and other structures exposed to demanding mountain conditions.

The combination of its imposing mountain habitat, golden autumn transformation and annual renewal makes the larch one of Europe's most recognisable and culturally significant conifers.
